Slam Dunk Basketball Challenge  
 
Slam Dunk Basketball Challenge is a sports-based service programme organized for underprivileged young people aged 13 to 17, in Hong Kong. It was launched in 1998, and over 5,000 participants have benefited from this programme since then.

Many young people today are experiencing serious family and schooling problems, making our support a vital part of their lives. These young people are often not encouraged to participate in sport due to lack of money and space.

This programme aims to train youngsters to be self-confident and self-disciplined and to enhance their sense of unity and belonging through basketball training, tournaments and their own social service.

Each player participates in a series of basketball training sessions and social service programmes of their choice in order to develop the spirit of mutual help. There is also a Career Improvement element.

There are four elements:

  • Social Service
  • Basketball Training and Tournaments
  • Dream Workshop
  • Career Improvement

Programme objectives:

  • Personal Growth
    To strengthen their self-esteem and self-discipline and to foster their personal growth

    To assist them in building good habits, exploring personal strengths and creating a positive direction

  • Life Experience
    To explore young peopleˇ¦s career interest goals and life direction

    Monetary support for learning courses

  • Team Building
    To enhance team spirit and leadership, and communication and interpersonal skills

    To build up a positive and supportive network among the young participants

  • Civic Responsibility
    To enhance participantsˇ¦ sense of civic responsi-bility and a caring and serving attitude towards other underprivileged groups
