Our Ambassador - Ms. Maria Cordero, MH

Maria Cordero, ¡§Fei Ma¡¨ (Fat Mama) as she is affectionately known is a role model for our young people. It all started in a poor Macao household. From assembling plastic flowers in a factory to carrying heavy bags of flour, she single-handedly supported her own eight-person family. It is Maria¡¦s talent, passion and devotion that make things happen.

Maria is ethnically mixed Portuguese, Chinese and Pakinstani. At the age of 10, she came to Hong Kong with her family. Being the eldest daughter was never easy: she worked delivering letters, in factories as a coolly, a chef ¡V you name it.

Fond of singing, Maria got a job through a friend at Canton Disco as a novice singer and sang jazz and blues in her amazingly strong voice. Her innate style on stage attracted and befriended artists and personnel working throughout the entertainment industry. After two years singing in Canton Disco, she was invited by the well known Director, Mr. Lam Ling Tung to debut in the acclaimed movie title ¡§City of Fire¡¨ Àsªê·¶³. She then released an album of the same name that went to Gold in 10 days and Platinum in just 20 days. The album title¡¦s main song ¡§Beam Of Friendship¡¨ ¤Í½Ë¤§¥ú is so renowned that old and young people know it as Westerners know ¡§Auld Lang Syne¡¨. Maria is a true `star¡¦.
